When did you join the firm?
Where is your office located?
Tell us about your practice.
I practice general commercial litigation, which involves a variety of topics such as contract law, employment law, and oil & gas law. Because of my location in College Station, I have also become involved in representing students and faculty at Texas A&M and other colleges and universities in employment disputes or Title IX investigations. I have also carved out a practice by representing attorneys involved in the attorney grievance system.
Why did you want to become an attorney?
I really began thinking about a career in law while taking a business law class at Texas A&M. I did not know any lawyers when I graduated, so it took three years before I decided to pursue law school and a career in law. Ultimately, the desire to help out small businesses and entrepreneurs with their legal disputes is what led me to law school, and the practice I wanted to build once I graduated.
What is the best thing about practicing law at West Webb?
Being able to build the practice that I want, in the town that I want. The team at West Webb really allows you to grow your practice and find work in fields that suit your talents and desires. By giving each attorney that freedom, we are able to develop areas in our firm that can help to further expand the services we provide, and better serve our clients by having a diverse group of attorneys that can help on virtually any matter that needs our attention.
What do you do for fun?
It is no longer a big secret, but I spend a fair amount of downtime working on being a professional wrestler. After launching a career in 2019 and adopting Drake Durden as my in-ring moniker, I have trained at the Lions Den Professional Wrestling School and wrestle for Lions Pride Sports here in the Brazos Valley. While the combination might not be what many expect, it is a great stress release and a way to stay in physical shape while getting to entertain people. It has also opened avenues for me to wrestle in other parts of the state, and meet other great people that wrestle and attend the shows. Being able to take on another persona and “act up” is something that is quite fun, and quite freeing.
What is your favorite quotation?
“It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.” – Vince Lombardi
As an avid sports fan, quotes from sports legends always seem to resonate with me, and as a Green Bay Packers shareholder, Vince Lombardi’s quotes were always some of the best. This quote from the great Vince Lombardi describes life in general, but especially as a lawyer. You will always get knocked down, or suffer a defeat, or end up on the short side of a case. But your ability to get back up and continue to advocate for your client and other clients defines you.
What is one thing about you that most people don’t know?
Most people are aware of my affinity (and ownership) of the Green Bay Packers, and more are learning about my alter ego, Drake Durden. Therefore, I will reach back and say that it is being a steel drummer in a steel drum band for 6 years. What started out as five high school and college friends in 2000 turned into a fairly successful group that played gigs throughout southeast Texas until 2006 when we all went our separate ways. Every now and then, I will set up the steel drums at the house and let that sweet Caribbean music echo through the house.
